February Record Store of the Month: Monster Music and Movies

Last March, Monster Music & Movies put on their first record convention – the Charleston Record Expo. It was so successful, they had another one in September and are planning the third one for this coming March 24th. There are plans to make this a twice-yearly event. They had record vendors from Florida to Michigan and all points in between set up at the show. And they keep coming back, too.

Their store is the former Manifest Discs & Tapes, which they purchased in 2004 when Manifest closed its doors. The store has been in the same location in Charleston for 20 years. They carry a deep selection of new & used CDs, DVDs, records, & various Ephemera. They’ve always carried vinyl, but the purchase of a 22,000 piece collection a number of years ago fueled the vinyl resurgence and gave them quite a bit of credibility. They have also been fortunate enough to keep acquiring quality record collections and now have an inventory of least 10,000 used records, not including the $1 and $3 bargain sections, nor the 45s! Monster also has a large selection of new vinyl as well (LP and 7″).

The first Saturday of every month they have a Vinyl Saturday sale, where all new & used vinyl is 20% off, and they usually have at least one or two live bands.

Monster is a Record Store Day store and participate in all things Record Store Day!

Darkside Record Gallery: January Record Store of the Month

Darkside Records & Gallery is Poughkeepsie, NY’s newest and only independent record shop, founded in January 2011 by three friends who felt the need to bring the physical record store back to the community. Their 2,000 square foot shop offers music from virtually every genre, including both new and used LP’s, CD’s, 45’s and even cassettes. The wall space above the racks is utilized as a gallery space for both regional and not-so-local artists to showcase their creative works, with a small opening reception held each month to kick off the newest show.

Being a part of their community, they’ve also featured in-store performances and meet-and-greets with both regional and national acts such as Chimaira, Warbringer, Shai Hulud, We Are The In Crowd, Dead Empires and Take One Car, just to name a few. They have also begun hosting a bi-weekly open mic night open to anyone who has something to share!

Help Us Recognize Our Record Store Partners!

Central Square Records, our first indie record store, has been a customer since 2002!

We’ve had the pleasure of sharing the success of over 20 of our independent record store partners in our monthly newsletter over the last two years. The common-thread they all share is a love of music on vinyl and a commitment to locally-owned record stores and artists.

Consistently, our most popular newsletter feature is our “Record Store of the Month” where we give owners the opportunity to share their stories and success. The average “Record Store of the Month” will see three to four hundred clicks from this newsletter on their website.

If you are interested in participating in 2012, please email us and we’ll add you to our line-up. In the meantime, check out the latest offerings from our friends at Record Store Day. We are pleased to announce we have signed on as corporate sponsors in 2012.

See Us at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, 2012!

Planning to be in Las Vegas in January for the Consumer Electronics show?  If so, please come see us at the Crosley Booth (number 10427) located in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

CES is a great time to review future products, discuss strategies for future growth and meet in person.  If you are interesting in attending, please email us to set an appointment.  We would love to see you there and have a VERY limited supply of badges for customers who have not yet registered for the show.

We hope to see you there!

The Last “Stacker” Has Left the Building!

The last “Stacker” left the building earlier this week. A Crosley product for over five years, the stackers are going to “rest” for awhile as we consider adding new features or updating the turntables for today’s consumer.

Since becoming a Deer Park exclusive item in 2009, the stackers provided a great option for consumers to remember how cool it is to “stack” your own records for hours of listening pleasure. We know you want them back, and are working on some plans for the future. As always, stay tuned, and you will hear it first in the Deer Park Dealer Blog!

Record Store Holiday Stocking Offer Released Today!

We are pleased to announce our record store holiday stocking offer email is being sent this evening to over 700 record stores we have worked with in the past.  This year, we are offering special shipping discounts on our new “Record Store Specials” which consist of factory case-quantity turntables, known to us as “Master Packs”.  Master Packs make it easier for us to deliver products directly to our stores via UPS and FedEx.  When we don’t need to re-box them for shipment, the factory packaging generally optimizes shipping space and efficiency, allowing for further savings.

The products involved this year include the Crosley Oval Turntable, the Crosley Platter-Pak 45 RPM Record Carrying case and the Crosley Spinnerette Portable USB Turntable.  The savings are significant for ordering in case quantity, so please take advantage of this offer before it expires on November 30, 2011.  Our new website has a “Record Store Specials” link, accessible from the homepage, which lists all of the products currently available in Master Pack Quantity.  You can see it here:

The New Platter Pak’s are part of the Holiday Record Store offer.

If you don’t receive an email tonight, email us directly at and we will have it sent over the weekend.
Have a great weekend, and let’s plan for a great Black Friday and beyond.

Welcome to the Blog of Deer Park Distributors
